JOHNSTON, R.I. (WPRI) — A nursing home employee who was experiencing flu-like symptoms was rushed to Rhode Island Hospital Thursday afternoon.

According to Johnston Fire Department, the worker at Cherry Hill Manor had been to Nigeria in the last few weeks.

The state health department confirmed there are no cases of Ebola in Rhode Island. Officials said first responders followed CDC guidelines during their response out of an abundance of caution.

“In an abundance of caution on our end, we treated it that way. The Johnston Fire Department and the Police Department are very prepared for these protocols. We’ve been working on the protocols for a while,” said Johnston Fire Chief Timothy McLaughlin. “When we got here, we immediately suited up, complete head to toe, as put forth by the CDC.”

Fire officials told Eyewitness News the female worker was experiencing vomiting and fever.
